On Friday, January 18, 2008, Governor Sonny Perdue released the following statement concerning the General Assembly's passage of the Statewide Water Plan: "I applaud both the Senate and the House for the passage of the Statewide Water Plan today. This process has been one of the most inclusive and transparent ones I have ever seen, with each stakeholder offered a seat at the table. With this plan now in place, we have a framework from which to work to conserve, protect and sustain Georgia's precious water resources." On November 8, 2007, the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, Committee of Transportation and Infrastructure, US House of Representatives, held a Hearing on legislation (H.R. 135) introduced by Georgia Congressman John Linder advocating the establishment of a National Water Commission to develop recommendations for a comprehensive water strategy to address our nation’s water needs.
