Project Experience

“INFORM: Integrated Forecasting and Reservoir Management”, sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office of Global Programs (NOAA OGP), the California Energy Commission (CEC), and CalFed (2003-2006). This project is carried out jointly with the Hydrologic Research Center in San Diego, California.

Scope: INFORM aimed to develop and demonstrate the value of integrated climate-hydrologic-water resources modeling and information systems for river basin management. The project includes the Trinity River, Sacramento River, American River, Feather River, San Joaquin River, and the Bay Delta.

“TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR WATER RESOURCES PLANNING IN GEORGIA” sponsored by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (Georgia EPD) (2006-2007).

Scope: This project aims to develop a mathematical tool to support Georgia’s water resources planning process.

Decision Support Software:

Georgakakos, A., M. Kistenmacher, K. Yu, and H. Yao,“Georgia Water Resources Planning Tool.” This software was developed for the Georgia Environmental Protection Department to support the state water resources planning process. The planning tool determines (1) the water available for consumptive use at an individual sub-basin, (2) the share of each sub-basin required to support downstream flow regime requirements, and (3) the benefits of alternative development plans and management practices such as conservation measures, return rates, basin transfers, and basin storage.

- “NILE DECISION SUPPORT TOOL (NILE DST): APPLICATIONS III.” Sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, scheduled for September 20 to October 3, 2006, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The aim of this workshop is to train Nile Basin engineers and scientists in modern methods of water resources planning and management.
- “INFORM DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM.” Sponsored by NOAA, the California Energy Commission, and CalFed, April 19-21, 2006, Sacramento, California. The Workshop aimed at transferring the INFORM DSS to the engineers and scientists of the California Department of Water Resources, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the California-Nevada River Forecast Center.
