Decision Support Software:

  1. Georgakakos, A. P. "GPOWER Reservoir Control Program." This software package (Copyrighted by GTRC, 1989) was developed for Georgia Power Company and performs real-time forecasting and control of hydropower projects. It runs on main frame and micro-computers (IBM or compatibles).
  2. Georgakakos, A. P., "The SAVRES Control Program, Version 1.0, Copyrighted by GTRC 1991. This program was developed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under Research Contract No. DACW21-88-C-0043 and is used for the real-time operation scheduling of the Savannah river system. It runs on both main-frame and microcomputers.
  3. Georgakakos, A. P., "The SAVRES Control Program, Version 2.0, Copyrighted by GTRC 1991. This program is an enhanced version of SAVRES 1.0 including a user-friendly graphics interface and pull-down menus. It was developed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under Research Contract No. DACW21-88-C-0043 and is used for the real-time operation scheduling of the Savannah river system. SAVRES 2.0 runs on IBM or compatible microcomputers.
  4. Georgakakos, A. P., "GNEWTON: BOD Curve Fitting." This program was sponsored by Georgia's Environmental Protection Division and is used to fit common BOD models to experimental data. The program runs on IBM personal computers and is used by Georgia's EPD to assist in permitting decisions.
  5. Georgakakos, A.P., and H. Yao, “Decision Support System for the Management of the High Aswan Dam.” This decision support system runs on high-end Personal Computers and is used operationally by the Egyptian Ministry of Public Works and Water Resources and the Ministry of Electricity. The system includes long-range policy-assessment applications as well as real-time control models to guide the day-to-day and hour-to-hour hydropower operations. Inflow forecasts are provided by distributed hydrologic models using satellite and on-site hydro meteorologic data. The model-user interface is graphical and user-friendly. The HAD-DSS is operational at the Nile Forecast and Control Center (NFC) in the Planning Sector of the Ministry of Public Works and Water Resources (MPWWR) in Cairo. Several senior Egyptian officials and engineers have been extensively trained in its theory and use and are presently responsible for its operation.
  6. Georgakakos, A.P., and H. Yao, “Decision Support System for Water and Energy Management in Greece.” This decision support system runs on Personal Computers and is used for water resources planning by the Greek Public Power Corporation. The system includes long-range policy-assessment applications as well as management modules.
  7. Georgakakos, A.P., H. Yao, K. Brumbelow, S. Bourne, C. DeMarchi, and M. Mullusky, "Lake Victoria Decision Support System (LVDSS)." This Windows-based software package integrates remote sensing, watershed modeling, agricultural planing, hydropower scheduling, and lake management modules within a GIS framework. LVDSS has been installed and is presently used by hydro-meteorological agencies, water ministries, and power utilities in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Personnel from these organizations have been thoroughly trained in the theory and use of the decision system through on-site technical workshops and extensive training missions to Georgia Tech.
  8. Georgakakos, A.P., and H. Yao, "ACF-DSS, 1.0." This decision support system was developed to support the water allocation negotiations among the States of Alabama, Georgia and Florida for the Apalachicola-Chatahoochee-Flint (ACF) river basin. The system has been made available (complete with the necessary training) to the technical teams of the three states for their use in assessing the impacts of alternative water allocation scenarios. The development and use of the ACF-DSS has already had a beneficial impact in the formulation of the ACF compact proposals. ACF-DSS runs on personal computers under the Windows operating system.
  9. Georgakakos, A.P., and H. Yao, "ACT-DSS, 1.0." This decision support system was developed to support the water allocation negotiations among the States of Alabama and Georgia for the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa (ACT) river basins. The system has been used to assess the impacts of alternative water allocation scenarios and has already led to important policy changes. ACT-DSS runs on personal computers under the Windows operating system and is being linked to the ACF-DSS.
  10. Georgakakos, A., H. Yao, K. Brumbelow, C. De Marchi, S. Bourne, A. Tidwell, “Nile Decision Support Tool.” This decision support system combines extensive hydroclimatic data bases with state of the science hydrologic, agricultural, and water resources models to assess the impacts of various development and management scenarios for the Nile Basin. The Nile DST software and associated reports (6 volumes) and user manuals (6 documents) has been developed and provided to the Nile Basin countries. Training and technology transfer activities are on-going.
  11. Georgakakos, A., and H. Yao, “Three-Gorges Decision Support System.” This software was developed for and is used operationally by the Yangtze River Power Corporation and the Three Gorges Dam Authority in China. The Three Gorges DSS combines climate and hydrologic forecasting with reservoir planning and management.
  12. Georgakakos, A., and H. Yao, “INFORM DSS.” This software package implements advanced methods for multi-reservoir planning and management for the Trinity, Sacramento, American, Feather, and San Joaquin Rivers (CVP system) in Northern California.
  13. Georgakakos, A., M. Kistenmacher, K. Yu, and H. Yao,“Georgia Water Resources Planning Tool.” This software was developed for the Georgia Environmental Protection Department to support the state water resources planning process. The planning tool determines (1) the water available for consumptive use at an individual sub-basin, (2) the share of each sub-basin required to support downstream flow regime requirements, and (3) the benefits of alternative development plans and management practices such as conservation measures, return rates, basin transfers, and basin storage.
